Training of Trainers (ToT) and Adaptation of the GALS Methodology
Organizational Context
The UN Women CHANGE Programme, an EU-UN initiative in five Central Asian countries, aims to combat gender-based violence (GBV) by changing harmful social norms and empowering women. It focuses on strengthening civil society's regional leadership and capacity. This role supports the introduction of the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) methodology in Kazakhstan, a community-led approach to gender equality and livelihood improvement.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to contextualize and introduce the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) methodology in Kazakhstan, building on successful implementations in the Kyrgyz Republic. The primary purpose is to establish a qualified pool of local facilitators and trainers through a comprehensive Training of Trainers (ToT) program. This initiative will enable the sustainable community rollout of GALS, empowering women and men to negotiate gender relationships, improve livelihoods, and transform harmful social norms. The role involves adapting GALS tools, delivering intensive training, providing mentorship during initial rollout, and developing a localized GALS manual and toolkit for Kazakhstan.
Responsibilities
The GALS Trainers will be responsible for adapting GALS visual tools to Kazakhstan's socio-cultural and linguistic context. They will design and deliver two interactive Training of Trainers (ToT) workshops for 10-15 participants, ensuring mastery of the five core GALS tools and participatory facilitation techniques. Following the ToT, they will provide structured coaching and feedback to refine participants' facilitation skills and assist them in developing local cascading plans and peer-sharing networks. The trainers will also finalize the adapted GALS Toolkit/Guidebook for Kazakhstan and submit a comprehensive assignment report detailing training outcomes, participant assessments, success stories, challenges, and recommendations for long-term sustainability.
Work Experience
Extensive hands-on experience is required in designing and delivering GALS training, including direct facilitation with the five core GALS tools. Experience with the Spotlight Initiative or GALS implementation in Kyrgyzstan is highly desirable. The role also requires experience in managing group dynamics, understanding the socio-political context of Central Asian countries, and training on trauma-informed, survivor-centred approaches to GBV.
