National Consultant for Provision of Translation/Interpretation Services
Organizational Context
UN Women Indonesia is seeking a National Consultant for Translation and Interpretation Services to support its mandate of eliminating discrimination against women and girls and achieving gender equality. The consultant will facilitate effective communication by providing high-quality translation and interpretation between English and Bahasa Indonesia for various UN Women programs and events.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for ensuring UN Women's communications and materials are accessible in the local language, supporting programs focused on ending violence against women, women's peace and security, and gender equality integration. The consultant will bridge language barriers in written documents and spoken interactions during meetings, workshops, and conferences, thereby enhancing the reach and impact of UN Women's initiatives in Indonesia. The purpose is to facilitate clear and accurate information exchange, contributing to the overall success of UN Women's mandate.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide translation services, converting various English documents (publications, reports, studies, advocacy materials) into Bahasa Indonesia and vice versa, ensuring accuracy and incorporating revisions. Interpretation services will be provided for events, meetings, and workshops, including simultaneous interpretation between English and Bahasa Indonesia. The role involves conducting thorough terminological research to maintain accuracy and consistency, utilizing UN/UN Women terminology resources. The consultant is responsible for the overall quality and accuracy of all translated and interpreted content, ensuring it meets UN Women's standards before submission.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in translation (English to Bahasa Indonesia and vice versa) and interpretation is required for candidates with secondary education. Those with a Bachelor's degree need a minimum of 3 years of experience. Familiarity with gender equality and justice system terminology in Indonesia is advantageous, as is prior experience with UN or international organizations.
