UN Women Jordan Country Office (JCO) supports the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's modernization agenda and national strategies for gender equality. The Gender Responsive Governance and Women’s Leadership Portfolio focuses on strengthening national systems, advancing gender equality, and promoting women's leadership in governance. The role supports government, civil society, and the UN system in these efforts.
Job Purpose
The Programme Specialist will lead and manage UN Women interventions within the Gender Responsive Governance and Women’s Leadership portfolio in Jordan. This involves designing and implementing programme strategies, managing projects, providing technical assistance to partners, and overseeing monitoring and reporting. The role aims to advance gender equality and women's empowerment by supporting Jordan's political and public sector reforms, enhancing gender mainstreaming, and promoting women's participation in leadership and decision-making processes.
Responsibilities
Design and develop programme strategies for Gender Responsive Governance and Women’s Leadership, including formulating proposals and identifying programmatic areas. Manage the implementation of the programme, including annual workplans, budgets, and partner reports, ensuring synergies and adherence to Results Based Management. Provide technical assistance and capacity development to partners, identifying needs and coordinating training initiatives. Oversee programme and project monitoring and reporting, including field missions and financial tracking. Manage programme and project budgets, draft financial reports, and supervise team members. Develop and implement partnerships and resource mobilization strategies. Contribute to inter-agency coordination to ensure programme coherence. Manage advocacy, knowledge building, and communication efforts, including policy dialogue and representation. The incumbent also performs other duties as required and leads a team of personnel.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressive experience in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating development projects focused on gender equality and women's empowerment. Demonstrated technical experience in gender-responsive governance and women's leadership is essential. Experience in leading staff, coordinating with government agencies and donors, and using computer software packages is required. UN system experience is desirable.
