Job Purpose
The Deputy Director of Advocacy provides senior leadership and strategic direction for UN Women’s global advocacy agenda, with significant autonomy in designing, prioritizing, and executing initiatives. This role is pivotal in setting organizational advocacy priorities, leading high-impact strategies across development, humanitarian, and peace and security contexts, and ensuring coherence across advocacy, campaigns, brand, partnerships, and resource mobilization. The incumbent collaborates closely with various UN Women divisions and offices to advance the organization's mission and objectives, ensuring advocacy efforts are aligned with the Strategic Plan and corporate priorities.
Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of global advocacy strategies, ensuring alignment with UN Women’s Strategic Plan. Provide strategic leadership for advocacy positioning and narratives. Manage institutional relationships with programme and policy leads to ensure evidence-based strategies. Coordinate advocacy efforts across teams, regional offices, and national committees for coherence. Lead UN Women’s humanitarian advocacy agenda, integrating gender equality into humanitarian action, peacebuilding, and crisis response. Oversee global campaigns and flagship events, developing integrated plans and executing high-profile events. Direct engagement with Goodwill Ambassadors and influencers to amplify advocacy reach. Lead the implementation of UN Women’s brand strategy and shape advocacy contributions to resource mobilization efforts. Lead relationships with key advocacy stakeholders and mobilize resources for campaigning and engagement initiatives.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in advocacy, including strategy development, campaigning, and partnerships, is required. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing global advocacy strategies with measurable outcomes, leading large-scale campaigns, and managing high-profile initiatives is essential. Experience with Goodwill Ambassadors, influencers, fundraising, brand strategy, and leading diverse international teams is also required.
