Job Purpose
The Deputy Director of Advocacy provides senior leadership and strategic direction for UN Women’s global advocacy agenda, with significant autonomy in designing, prioritizing, and executing advocacy initiatives. This pivotal role involves setting organizational advocacy priorities, leading high-impact strategies across various contexts, and ensuring coherence across advocacy, campaigns, brand, partnerships, and resource mobilization. The incumbent collaborates closely with various UN Women divisions and offices to advance gender equality and women's empowerment on the international stage.
Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of global advocacy strategies, ensuring alignment with UN Women's Strategic Plan. Provide strategic leadership within the Division of Communications and Advocacy (DCA) on advocacy positioning and priorities. Manage institutional relationships and coordinate advocacy efforts across teams, regional offices, and national committees. Lead UN Women’s humanitarian advocacy agenda, ensuring integration of gender equality in humanitarian action and crisis response. Provide strategic leadership for institutional flagship campaigns and global advocacy moments, overseeing integrated advocacy and campaign plans. Direct engagement with Goodwill Ambassadors and influencers to amplify advocacy reach. Lead the implementation of UN Women’s brand strategy and shape advocacy contributions to resource mobilization efforts. Lead relationships with key advocacy stakeholders and partners, and mobilize resources for campaigning and engagement initiatives.
Work Experience
Requires at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in advocacy, including strategy development, campaigning, and partnerships. Demonstrated experience in implementing global advocacy strategies with measurable outcomes, leading large-scale campaigns, and working with high-profile influencers is essential. Experience in fundraising, brand strategy leadership, and managing international teams is also required. Experience within the UN system or international organizations is highly desirable.
