Intern: ITC in Iraq - Inclusive Economic Development
Organizational Context
The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the WTO and UN, supports MSME competitiveness and sustainable development through trade. In Iraq, ITC implements EU-supported initiatives focused on economic inclusion for Women, Youth, and Vulnerable Communities (WYVC), decent employment, business development, and stronger institutions.
Job Purpose
This internship supports three key workstreams in Iraq: JOBS (economic inclusion and durable solutions for vulnerable groups), BEIT (decent work and affordable housing), and MASAR (TVET policy operationalization). The intern will contribute to desk research, stakeholder mapping, technical documentation, coordination, reporting, and knowledge management under supervision. This is a learning assignment, not involving independent policy advice or project delivery responsibility, aimed at gaining practical experience in inclusive economic development initiatives.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct desk research on economic inclusion barriers and opportunities for vulnerable groups in Iraq. Responsibilities include mapping labour market opportunities, employers, business support organizations, and training providers. The intern will assist in consolidating information on beneficiary outreach, skills development, employment referrals, enterprise support, and financial inclusion linkages. Tasks also involve preparing background briefs, analytical summaries, and presentations. Additionally, the intern will support documentation of technical consultations, maintain action trackers, and assist in mapping TVET institutions and coordination mechanisms. Evidence reviews on institutional bottlenecks and drafting inputs for protocols and procedures are also key duties.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is explicitly required, but an interest in inclusive economic development, labour markets, entrepreneurship, private-sector development, housing/construction, or TVET governance, particularly in fragile or displacement-affected contexts, is desirable.
Skills
Ability to conduct structured desk research, critically assess sources, and synthesize findings. Strong organizational and communication skills. Proficiency in standard office software, spreadsheets, and presentation tools. Data visualization and basic monitoring skills are assets. Fluency in English is required; Arabic and/or other UN languages are a strong asset.
