Assistant Architect Design (Architectural Modeling & 3D Visualization)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is a UN organization established in 1949 to assist and protect approximately 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees across Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and Gaza. UNRWA provides essential services including education, healthcare, and social services, operating as the largest UN entity in the Middle East with over 30,000 staff. This role supports the Architecture and Design Division within the Programme Infrastructure and Camp Improvement Department.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for developing preliminary and detailed architectural designs for various UNRWA building projects, including schools, health centers, and shelters. The primary purpose is to create accurate 3D architectural models, high-quality photorealistic renderings, visual simulations, walkthroughs, and animation movies. These visual outputs are essential for supporting design reviews, facilitating stakeholder consultations, preparing donor presentations, securing project approvals, and enhancing communication materials. The position contributes to ensuring that architectural designs align with the Agency's needs, policies, design criteria, standards, and relevant local and international codes of practice, ultimately supporting the improvement of infrastructure for Palestine refugees.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Architect Design is responsible for developing preliminary and detailed architectural designs for diverse building projects such as schools, health centers, shelters, warehouses, and administrative buildings, ensuring compliance with agency standards and codes. Key duties include creating detailed interior and exterior 3D models for buildings and site development, producing models suitable for concept presentation, design development, and coordination. The role involves generating high-resolution, photorealistic renderings with appropriate materials, lighting, and effects to clearly communicate design intent. Additionally, the incumbent will develop architectural walkthroughs, fly-throughs, and animated project presentations, preparing storyboards and camera paths for final animations. This includes maintaining well-structured 3D files for efficient revisions and rendering, and reviewing drawings prepared by technical assistants.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required, with at least two years focused on designing public buildings and developing detailed 3D models for buildings, public spaces, and site development projects. Proven experience with specialized CAD software for 3D modeling, rendering, visualization, and animation is essential.
Skills
Proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., SketchUp Pro, Enscape, Adobe Photoshop), 3D modeling, rendering, visualization, animation, and movie production. Strong communication skills in English and Arabic. Core UN competencies: Integrity, Professionalism, Respect for Diversity, Communication, Working with People, Drive for Results, Creating and Innovating, Deciding and Initiating Action, Relating and Networking, Learning and Researching.
