Organizational Context

The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) serves as a vital link between global economic, social, and environmental policies and national actions. It supports the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Economic Analysis and Policy Division (EAPD) conducts research and policy analysis on macroeconomic trends and emerging issues, supporting developing countries through capacity development projects.

Job Purpose

This internship focuses on developing and enhancing MUIOGO, an integration of the open-source macroeconomic model OG-Core with a user-friendly interface (MUIO). The role involves creating a more accessible tool for macroeconomic analysis, similar to the UN's CLEWs analysis model. The project aims to transition MUIOGO into a fully open-source application by replacing proprietary components with open-source alternatives, facilitating easier distribution, maintenance, and community development. The intern will contribute to making complex macroeconomic modeling tools more user-friendly and accessible for policymakers and researchers.

Responsibilities

Assist in designing and implementing a policymaker-friendly user interface for MUIOGO, integrating it with OG-Core. Develop dashboards for scenario design, selection, and execution. Implement visualization components to explore model results and add usability features like defaults, tooltips, and guardrails. Replace proprietary front-end components with open-source alternatives, contributing improvements to MUIO. Implement packaging and distribution workflows, set up CI/CD pipelines, and write documentation and onboarding materials for the project.
