Organizational Context

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is a UN agency mandated to provide aid and protection to Palestine refugees. The Jordan Field Office (JFO) hosts a significant refugee population and delivers essential services. The Public Information Office (PIO) within JFO is responsible for transparent and proactive communication.

Job Purpose

This internship within the UNRWA Jordan Field Office's Public Information Office (PIO) aims to provide hands-on experience in communications and public information work within a humanitarian context. The intern will support the PIO team across various functions, including content creation, social media management, event coverage, research, and administrative tasks. This role offers exposure to the day-to-day operations of a UN communications office, contributing to the dissemination of information to stakeholders and the refugee community.

Responsibilities

The intern will support content creation and scheduling for UNRWA Jordan's social media platforms, including designing simple visuals and editing basic photo/video content. Responsibilities include assisting with coverage of UNRWA activities and events through photography and videography. The role involves supporting research and background information gathering for communication materials and assisting in drafting short-form content and captions. Additionally, the intern will help organize and maintain digital content files and provide general administrative support to the PIO team, such as scheduling and filing.

Work Experience

No prior professional experience is required for this internship. However, previous coursework, volunteer experience, or internships in communications, social media, or content creation are considered an asset. Basic familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools like Canva is preferable.

Skills

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), basic familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools (e.g., Canva), adaptability, willingness to learn, ability to work in a team environment, and a commitment to UN core values.
