Air Operations Assistant
Organizational Context
This position is within the Aviation Unit of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in Entebbe. The Air Operations Assistant reports to the Associate Air Operations Officer and supports the coordination, monitoring, safety, and emergency response of UN aviation operations, ensuring safe and efficient aircraft movement according to UN standards.
Job Purpose
The Air Operations Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Aviation Unit's mission by ensuring the safe and efficient movement of aircraft, passengers, and cargo. This involves performing flight operations tasks such as scheduling flights, arranging clearances, and coordinating ground handling services. The role requires meticulous record-keeping, monitoring aircraft positions via tracking systems, and liaising with local aviation authorities. By managing these operational aspects and ensuring compliance with aviation standards, the assistant directly contributes to the overall effectiveness and safety of UN aviation operations within the mission area.
Responsibilities
Perform flight operations tasks, including scheduling UN flights, securing airspace and landing clearances, and arranging ground handling services. Facilitate aircrew dispatch and coordinate all ground handling requirements for mission aircraft, such as refueling, cleaning, and transportation. Monitor aircraft positions and movements using radios and flight tracking systems. Maintain accurate records of flight following, aircraft dispatch, and technical compliance. Complete radio logs and aviation operations risk management checklists. Coordinate with local Civil Aviation and Airport Authorities for necessary authorizations, airport passes, and hangar space. Analyze Aircraft Use Reports and prepare daily Flight Hour Reports for all aircraft.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in aviation is required. This includes at least two years of direct experience in air transport operations.
