Intern - Legal Affairs
Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Legal Affairs Department, based in HQ Amman, seeks an intern for a three-month period. This role supports the provision of legal advice and services within the agency, contributing to its mandate of assisting Palestine refugees.
Job Purpose
The Legal Affairs Intern will provide crucial support to the UNRWA Legal Affairs Department in Amman. The primary purpose of this internship is to assist in a wide range of legal activities, including drafting and reviewing legal documents, conducting research on administrative and public international law matters, and providing analysis on contractual agreements. This role contributes to the effective functioning of the department by supporting legal advice delivery, research initiatives, and the review of governance-related legal matters, ultimately aiding UNRWA in its mission.
Responsibilities
Assist in drafting and reviewing various legal documents such as correspondence, summary notes, briefing papers, and reports. Provide legal advice and analysis on contracts, including those related to procurement, donor financing, and project agreements for humanitarian assistance. Conduct research and analysis on administrative law issues, including cases before the UNRWA Dispute Tribunal and UN Appeals Tribunal. Research and advise on public international law, including human rights, humanitarian, and refugee law, as well as UN privileges and immunities. Review legal matters concerning UNRWA's governance, including administrative issuances. Support trainings, events, and meetings by taking notes and preparing summary reports. Perform other assigned legal tasks as required.
