Organizational Context

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Global Operations Division, Methodology, Learning, Policy and Practice Section seeks interns to support its Dynamic Knowledge and Library Team. This team provides essential information and knowledge services, acting as a gateway to human rights information relevant to the UN's work. The internship is based in Geneva.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to recruit three interns with distinct profiles (Library, Data Science, Communications/Knowledge Management) to support the OHCHR's Dynamic Knowledge and Library Team. Interns will contribute to the development of the Human Rights Knowledge Gateway and related resources, enhancing access to information on human rights. They will assist in research, content creation for the OHCHR intranet, and specific workstreams tailored to their profile, such as organizing knowledge-sharing events, producing multimedia content, data analysis for task automation, or managing library operations. The role is crucial for improving the dissemination and accessibility of human rights knowledge and supporting the UN's human rights initiatives.

Responsibilities

Interns will support the Dynamic Knowledge and Library Team in providing quality information and knowledge services related to human rights and UN work. Responsibilities include contributing to the Human Rights Knowledge Gateway and developing content for the OHCHR intranet. Specific duties vary by profile: Communications/Knowledge Management interns will organize knowledge-sharing events, produce materials like videos and tutorials, edit websites, and update intranet content. Data Science interns will automate tasks such as subject classification and data extraction. Library interns will manage daily library operations, including cataloging, indexing, research queries, digitization, client interaction, and collection management.
