Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Sectoral Transition Section works to accelerate decarbonization in emissions-intensive sectors like buildings, energy, cooling, and food waste. It supports subnational climate action through strategic partnerships, private sector engagement, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, aligning with UNEP's Medium-Term Strategy to address climate change, nature loss, and pollution.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNEP's Sectoral Transition Section in accelerating decarbonization efforts across key emissions-intensive sectors. The purpose is to drive strategic partnership development, enhance private sector engagement, and foster multi-stakeholder collaboration. By translating scientific insights into actionable solutions and strengthening political commitment, the role contributes to achieving climate stability through reduced carbon emissions and increased adaptation and resilience, aligning with UNEP's strategic objectives and the Paris Agreement.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a long-term strategy for engagement with global and regional forums, coordinating event organization and fundraising. Identify new partnership opportunities and funding schemes, supporting the negotiation of agreements and maintaining an active stakeholder engagement pipeline. Lead the planning, production, and delivery of high-level conferences, ministerial dialogues, workshops, and summits to enhance UNEP's visibility and strengthen partnerships. Coordinate with communications teams for impactful outreach and ensure events adhere to sustainability practices. Prepare concept notes, agendas, speaking points, and reports, while facilitating stakeholder consultations and managing event logistics.

Work Experience

Requires at least 5 years of experience in partnerships development, event production, and resource mobilization. Mandatory experience in sustainable buildings, cooling, environment, climate change, urban energy, or food loss and waste is essential. Experience with international organizations and intergovernmental bodies is considered an asset.

Skills

Excellent organizational and logistical skills. Excellent diplomatic and communication skills. Strong writing skills in English and French. Knowledge of sustainable buildings, cooling, environment, climate change, urban energy, and food loss and waste policies. Ability to proactively seek solutions, manage multiple tasks, and work efficiently under pressure. Teamwork and collaboration are essential.
