Communications Assistant
Organizational Context
This position is within the UN Video Section of the Department of Global Communications (DGC), News and Media Division. The section produces video content on UN priority themes like climate change, SDGs, and human rights. The role reports to the Multimedia TV Producer/Managing Editor of UNifeed and the Chief of Arabic News.
Job Purpose
The Public Information Assistant supports the UN Video Section in producing and delivering daily UNifeed packages and website content. This involves researching diverse information sources, compiling data for communications products, and assisting in the production and editing of news packages from Gaza and the field. The role also includes coordinating coverage of key events, managing video distribution and archives, and preparing material for the UNifeed website, ensuring adherence to UN formats and styles. The incumbent will record and edit video content, conduct interviews, and monitor social media feedback.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include providing specialized assistance in the production and delivery of daily UNifeed packages and website posts. This involves researching information from various sources, compiling data for communications products, and organizing special coverage with partners and media. The role also entails administrative coordination for training programs, overseeing video material distribution, and managing film/video archives. Assisting in scriptwriting, editing news packages from Gaza and the field, and preparing detailed shot lists are crucial. The position requires participation in daily UNifeed productions, including recording, directing shoots, digital editing, arranging interviews, and monitoring events. Additionally, the role involves identifying and preparing new material for the UNifeed website and monitoring social media platforms.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in public information, journalism, or international relations is required, reduced to five years with a first-level university degree. Experience in video production, including filming and digital editing, and experience in a news environment are essential. International field experience, producing for social media, and repurposing TV content are desirable.
Skills

This includes knowledge of communication policies, research abilities, meeting commitments, and maintaining client partnerships. Awareness of technology's applicability and a willingness to learn new technologies are also important.
