Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Beirut supports evidence-based policies and regional collaboration on ageing and migration. It conducts research, provides technical assistance, and builds capacity for governments in the Arab region. This internship role is based at UN-House/ESCWA and is expected to last for six months.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide substantive support to ESCWA’s analytical and policy work concerning ageing and migration within the Arab region. The intern will contribute to research on migration patterns, their developmental impact, and the governance of migration in Arab countries. A key function will involve scrutinizing and summarizing migration policies and laws to populate a comprehensive database. Additionally, the intern will assist in the substantive preparations for meetings and events related to these critical areas, thereby gaining practical experience in international policy analysis and development.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct research on migration policies and laws across the Arab region, meticulously scrutinizing and summarizing findings for integration into the migration policies database. A core responsibility involves providing substantive support to ESCWA's analytical and policy-oriented work on ageing and migration issues within the region. Furthermore, the intern will assist in the substantive preparations for relevant meetings and events as required. This role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the commission's efforts in understanding and addressing complex regional challenges related to migration and ageing.
Work Experience
No previous work experience is required for this internship. The focus is on academic background and demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and its ideals.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software applications; demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UN; personal commitment to UN Charter ideals; ability to interact successfully with diverse cultural backgrounds; fluency in English and Arabic.
