Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. This role supports the implementation of a GEF-funded project in Serbia focused on updating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and preparing the 7th National Report.

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for providing technical advice and support for the implementation of environmental projects in Serbia, specifically the NBSAP update and 7th National Report project. The purpose is to ensure the successful and timely delivery of project objectives by coordinating activities, managing work plans, liaising with partners, and overseeing consultants. The role contributes to UNEP's mandate of monitoring the global environment, informing decision-making, and addressing emerging environmental challenges by facilitating project execution and ensuring quality outputs and reporting.

Responsibilities

Provide technical advice and support for project activities in Serbia. Develop detailed work plans and ensure project outcomes meet required standards within budget and timelines. Liaise with UNEP regional, national, and local partners. Organize and coordinate project activities, including workshops, studies, and subcontracts, providing administrative support. Develop project documentation, Terms of Reference (TORs), and facilitate the recruitment of experts and consultants. Supervise consultants and subcontractors, reviewing their deliverables. Coordinate field activities among beneficiaries, consultants, and service providers. Ensure accurate and timely documentation, analysis, and reporting of project data and results through policy briefs and reports. Identify synergies with other relevant projects. Support the development of communication materials and publications. Maintain cooperation with national counterparts, partners, and stakeholders. Monitor project implementation, report on progress, and manage emerging issues. Support partnership and advocacy activities.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience at the national and/or international level, preferably in an environmental context, is required. Experience in supporting project implementation with extensive communication, coordination, and facilitation is essential. Understanding of Serbia's environment sector, policies, and challenges is necessary. Experience in partnership building is desirable.
