Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in China supports the UN Country Team, enhancing coherence among UN agencies to improve operational effectiveness and partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals. This internship is within the RCO China, contributing to its mandate of strengthening UN system coherence in the country.
Job Purpose
This six-month, full-time, unpaid internship at the UN RCO China offers a motivated individual the opportunity to gain practical experience in how the UN system operates at the country level. The intern will provide crucial administrative and coordination support to the Front Office, assisting the Executive Associate to the Resident Coordinator. This role is designed to offer a unique learning experience, contributing to the RCO's mandate of enhancing UN system coherence and effectiveness in China, while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through inter-agency collaboration.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide coordination and administrative assistance at the Front Office. Key duties include finalizing and formatting official correspondences for the Resident Coordinator and managing their approval process. The role also involves providing simple translation and interpretation services as needed, supporting chrono filing, managing archives, and maintaining the contact information database. Additionally, the intern will complete other ad hoc tasks as requested by the office or supervisor, and perform other duties assigned by the Executive Associate that align with the internship's learning objectives, contributing to the overall functioning of the RCO.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a relevant field of study is necessary. The internship focuses on providing foundational experience and learning opportunities within the UN system.
Skills
Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Strong written and spoken communication skills in English and Chinese. Ability to provide administrative and coordination support. Basic translation/interpretation skills are beneficial.
