Organizational Context
The Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) of ESCAP supports 53 member States and 9 associate members in Asia and the Pacific. It conducts analytical studies, policy-oriented research, and capacity building on macroeconomic and financing for development issues. The division facilitates policy dialogues and provides normative and analytical activities, operating remotely and/or on-site in Bangkok.
Job Purpose
This internship within the Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) at ESCAP offers a valuable learning experience in either macroeconomic policy and analysis or financing for development. The intern will contribute to the Division's research work, support capacity development initiatives, and assist in organizing workshops and meetings. This role provides exposure to critical economic issues facing the Asia-Pacific region, allowing the intern to develop practical skills in research, analysis, and event coordination while contributing to the Division's mandate of fostering sustainable development and economic growth.
Responsibilities
The intern will undertake research and analysis in areas such as monetary policy, fiscal policy, tax cooperation, public finance efficiency, and econometric analysis. This includes identifying short- to medium-term risks to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region and preparing inputs for ESCAP publications. For the financing for development track, responsibilities include supporting technical consultations and workshops, designing capacity-building materials on sustainable and green finance, and developing e-learning modules. The intern will also coordinate capacity-building activities, research sustainable and green financing instruments, and support the implementation of demonstration and regional projects, including tracking trends and documenting best practices.
Work Experience
No prior working experience is required for this internship. However, experience in reference research and familiarity with or experience in data analysis are considered desirable. The ability to work effectively in a team, manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines, and interact well with diverse individuals in a professional environment are also beneficial.
