DMFAS Intern
Organizational Context
The Debt Management and Financial Analysis Programme (DMFAS) within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) seeks an intern to support its Debt and Development Finance Branch. This role, based in Geneva or remote, will assist in preparatory work for the 15th Debt Management Conference and the DMFAS Programme Advisory Group.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide students or recent graduates with practical experience in international trade and development, specifically within debt management. The intern will support the organization of a major conference and an advisory group meeting, contributing to administrative and logistical activities. Additionally, the role involves conducting research on public debt management and related issues, enhancing the intern's understanding of global financial dynamics and the UN's role in this field. This experience is designed to complement academic learning and provide exposure to the work of the United Nations.
Responsibilities
Assist in the administrative and logistical preparations for the 15th Debt Management Conference and DMFAS Programme Advisory Group meeting. This includes managing invitation and registration lists, responding to participant inquiries, and aiding with travel arrangements and visa requirements. Liaise with resource persons and participants, prepare necessary documentation, and proofread presentation materials. Conduct research on current developments and key issues in public debt management, public finance, and country-specific debt challenges, utilizing UNCTAD and UNOG library facilities and internet resources. Support the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the DMFAS Programme as needed.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, relevant academic training, coursework, or skills that can benefit the United Nations are advantageous. Applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications.

Computer literacy in standard software applications; keen interest in the work of the United Nations; commitment to UN Charter ideals; ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds; willingness to understand differing opinions; fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable.
