Organizational Context

UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, promotes socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities to improve quality of life. It collaborates with diverse partners to implement the Habitat Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 11. The agency addresses urban mobility challenges like congestion and pollution, supporting sustainable transport solutions.

Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to enhance sustainable mobility in partner cities by providing technical advice and policy support. The role involves coordinating road safety projects, researching emerging mobility issues, and developing project proposals. Key initiatives include the UN Road Safety Fund (ACROS) project, the 'Evidence for Action Africa' project focusing on vulnerable road users, and supporting the Pan-African Action Plan for Active Mobility (PAAPAM) and the 'ACCESS' project for low-carbon urban mobility solutions. The consultant will contribute to improving urban transport systems and reducing carbon emissions.

Responsibilities

Provide technical advice and policy support to cities on sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. Coordinate project activities related to road safety, including the ACROS project and innovation challenges. Conduct research on emerging urban mobility issues and support the development of new project proposals. Assist in implementing projects such as 'Evidence for Action Africa' for road safety data collection, the Pan-African Action Plan for Active Mobility (PAAPAM), and the 'ACCESS' project for low-carbon urban mobility. Provide technical expertise for projects like T-GATE Tanzania and ACTIVATE Bangkok, focusing on transit-oriented development and multi-modal transport. Develop knowledge products and technical papers on safe, inclusive, smart, and electric mobility.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of working experience in Urban or Transport Planning is required. Experience in international organizations, urban projects, and intercultural environments is also required. A good understanding of transport planning, urban development, policy, legislation, and sustainable urbanisation is necessary.
