Senior Finance Assistant - General Accounts (PEP)

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is a UN organization providing assistance to approximately 5.8 million Palestine refugees across the Middle East. The Jordan Field Office requires a Senior Finance Assistant to manage the increased workload of the Parallel Education Fund (PEP) within the Finance Department, ensuring sustained support and compliance.
Job Purpose
The Senior Finance Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Parallel Education Programme (PEP) within UNRWA's Jordan Field Office. This position is essential for managing and processing financial transactions related to PEP, ensuring alignment with program budgets and initiatives. The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations between different systems, and assisting in financial reviews. By acting as a focal point for PEP finances, the incumbent ensures compliance with UNRWA's financial policies and regulations, contributes to process improvements, and follows up on audit recommendations, thereby supporting the effective delivery of educational services to Palestine refugees.
Responsibilities
Manage and process financial transactions for the Parallel Education Programme (PEP), ensuring alignment with program budgets and initiatives. Perform accounting tasks including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, fees, and reconciliations between the REACH ERP system and the Student Registration System (SRS). Maintain and categorize all PEP-related financial records in general and subsidiary ledgers. Draft necessary documents and correspondence related to PEP financial functions. Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly reviews of PEP ledgers and coordinate with relevant departments. Serve as the primary contact for PEP finances within the Jordan Field Office's financial system and reporting structure. Ensure financial processes and records comply with UNRWA's financial policies, regulations, and rules. Provide input for business process improvements and follow up on audit recommendations related to PEP. Perform other assigned duties as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in accounting or finance is required, including experience with computerized finance systems. Proficiency in computer applications such as Excel and Access is also necessary. Experience with the SAP system is desirable.
Skills
Applying Technical Expertise, Following Instructions and Procedures, Analyzing, Relating and Networking, Planning and Organizing. Proficiency in English is required; Arabic is desirable.
