The Department of Global Communications (DGC) informs the public, civil society, and Member States with trusted information, communicating the UN story globally. The Human Rights and Outreach Programmes Section, within the DGC's Outreach Division, advances understanding of human rights issues through education and advocacy, focusing on equality and combating discrimination. This internship is based in New York.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to enhance educational, communications, and digital outreach resources for the Outreach Programme on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Slavery. The intern will support the Human Rights and Outreach Programmes Section by conducting research on human rights and outreach initiatives, contributing to the development of various communication products, and assisting in the creation of audiovisual materials. The role involves synthesizing research findings, drafting content for digital platforms, and supporting project planning and coordination. The objective is to contribute to raising awareness and understanding of critical human rights issues through effective communication and engagement strategies, aligning with the UN's mission.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on thematic issues related to human rights, equality, anti-discrimination, and UN outreach initiatives. Develop educational, communication, and digital outreach products by drafting and editing website content, news stories, social media posts, and multimedia materials. Research and synthesize findings on relevant lectures, exhibitions, speakers, and educational activities for project inclusion. Support the creation of audiovisual project deliverables through research, transcription, and content preparation for digital and social media platforms. Assist in developing presentations and contribute to project-related planning and coordination activities, providing research and recommendations for events and outreach efforts.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Demonstrated ability to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is valued. Skills and experience in writing, social media, and multimedia production are strongly desired.
