Data Specialist
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), part of a global reform, support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs under the UN Development System. This role sits within the UN RCO in Islamabad, Pakistan, reporting to the Head of the RCO. The office is recalibrated to support the UN 2.0 shift, focusing on data, digital, innovation, and a mission-driven culture.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for optimizing statistical efficiency and quality within the UN RCO. The Data Analyst will develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics strategies. Key contributions include identifying trends, supporting monitoring and evaluation products for UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks, and co-designing digital tools with national partners. The role involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies, to enhance data utilization for decision-making and reporting, ultimately supporting the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics strategies to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze trends and patterns using statistical methods, and develop reporting and quality control capabilities. Support the creation of monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) products for UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks, leveraging UN systems and tools like Power BI. Collaborate with national statistical partners on digital tools and dashboards for SDG tracking. Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings. Document methodologies and establish data practices. Support capacity-building for UNCT statistical initiatives and national statistical systems. Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to improve data flows and quality. Conduct outcome-level analysis and contribute to data clinics and training sessions on data analytics and results-based management.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in data manipulation and analysis, including data structures and statistical methods, is required. Demonstrated skills in data storytelling and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R) are essential. Experience with the data life cycle (collection, wrangling, analysis, visualization, reporting) and data quality assurance is required. Experience in assessing data accuracy and consistency is desirable.
