Organizational Context

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City, part of the Department of Global Communications, serves as the primary information source for the UN System in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. It promotes understanding of the Secretary-General's priorities and the UN's impact, leading UN Country Team communications and advocacy. This internship reports to the National Information Officer.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to support the communications and outreach activities of the UNIC Mexico. The intern will assist in research, drafting, and production of communications materials, with a focus on audiovisual content. The role involves engaging with various publics through traditional and digital channels, supporting strategic UN communication in Mexico and the wider region. Additionally, the intern will help coordinate communication efforts among UN System agencies, produce multimedia assets for web and social media, and draft content in Spanish and English. The position also involves liaising with civil society, academia, and NGOs, assisting in event organization, and collaborating with public and private sectors on UN issues.

Responsibilities

Support UNIC Mexico's communication activities, including research, drafting, and production of communications products, particularly audiovisual materials. Assist in outreach efforts to diverse audiences using traditional and digital communication channels. Contribute to the strategic communication of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Aid in coordinating communication activities of UN System agencies in Mexico through the Communication Group. Produce multimedia stories and digital/audiovisual assets for web and social media. Draft and edit written, audiovisual, and digital content in Spanish and English for various platforms. Assist in daily liaison with civil society, academia, and NGOs. Support the organization of events and collaborate with public and private sectors on UN-related activities. Promote UN education and youth participation through cooperation with civil society.

Work Experience

No prior working experience is required for this internship. The focus is on the applicant's training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that can benefit the United Nations.

Skills

Audiovisual production, content drafting and editing (written, audiovisual, digital), communication strategy support, outreach, multimedia asset creation, liaison with external stakeholders (civil society, academia, NGOs), event organization support. Desirable: Programming skills for AR/VR products, knowledge of Boolean queries, media/social media listening tools, and analytics.
