Consultant Security Information Analyst
Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat, specifically the Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Nairobi, Kenya, seeks a Consultant Security Information Analyst. This role operates under the guidance of senior security advisors and contributes to the UN's mission of enabling program activities through trusted security leadership. The position is crucial for enhancing the safety and security of UN personnel and operations.
Job Purpose
The Consultant Security Information Analyst (CSIA) is responsible for researching, gathering, collating, analyzing, and disseminating security-relevant information for Kenya and neighboring countries. This role directly supports decision-making and planning by the Department of Safety and Security, ensuring the safety and security of the United Nations. The CSIA will maintain awareness of potential security threats by monitoring incidents, situation reports, local media, and open sources, while developing and maintaining an information-gathering network in line with UN policies. This position contributes to peace, security, human rights, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to manage security-relevant information, including its collection, collation, analysis, and dissemination, to support UN decision-making and planning. This involves monitoring security incidents, daily situation reports, local media, and other open sources to maintain awareness of potential threats. The role requires developing and cultivating an information-gathering and information-sharing network in accordance with UN policy and guidelines. The Consultant will research, gather, collate, analyze, and disseminate security-relevant information for Kenya and relevant neighboring countries to enhance the safety and security of UN personnel, assets, and operations in Nairobi.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in applied military, police, or political predictive analysis is required. At least two of these years must be international experience within a multilateral organization in criminology or corporate security. Experience analyzing security incident trends affecting UNSMS organizations in East and Central Africa is also required. Prior UN system or international NGO experience is desirable.
