Political Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs-Department of Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO) Shared Structure, is responsible for global political and peace security engagements. This internship is within the Europe and Central Asia Division (ECAD), contributing to the Western Europe and Eastern Mediterranean team, which covers 22 countries and regional organizations.
Job Purpose
This six-month, UNPAID internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the daily work of the Western Europe and Eastern Mediterranean team within the UN Secretariat's DPPA-DPO. The intern will gain practical experience in political analysis and operational support by monitoring regional developments, conducting research, and assisting with meetings and briefing materials. This role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to international peace and security issues, supporting senior officials and contributing to the UN's mission of maintaining peace and security. The internship is based in New York and can be adjusted to full-time or part-time based on candidate needs.
Responsibilities
The intern will monitor media reports and political/security developments in the Western Europe and Eastern Mediterranean region. Responsibilities include conducting background research and analysis on regional issues and trends, following and reporting on UN Security Council and General Assembly meetings, and attending other relevant meetings and events, preparing summary notes. The role also involves providing logistical support for organizing meetings and events, preparing briefing materials for senior officials, and performing other assigned duties to support the team's operational and strategic objectives.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be currently pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree program as specified in the education requirements.
