The RCO in Praia, Cabo Verde, operates within the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO), which oversees the Resident Coordinator system, aligning with UN 2.0 principles.
Job Purpose
The Associate Communications Officer supports the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Praia, Cabo Verde, by managing internal and external communications to advance UN development priorities and SDGs. This role involves contributing to communication strategies, creating engaging content across various platforms, fostering media and stakeholder relationships, and supporting outreach and advocacy campaigns. The officer monitors media, analyzes trends, and reports on communication effectiveness, ensuring alignment with UN 2.0 principles and maintaining data integrity. The position requires collaboration with internal UN entities and external partners, including government officials and civil society, to enhance the UN's visibility and impact at the country level.
Responsibilities
The Associate Communications Officer is responsible for contributing to media monitoring and analysis to inform communication strategies, including identifying reputational risks. They will assist in implementing communication strategies to raise awareness and drive engagement, and draft messaging for various UN initiatives. The role involves media mapping, building relationships with media outlets, and developing media lines, particularly for crisis situations. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating press conferences and events, and potentially acting as a spokesperson. The officer will create compelling content for diverse platforms, produce communications materials like press releases and reports, and develop communication campaigns. They will also foster strategic partnerships, support outreach and advocacy, and contribute to radio and podcast content. Additionally, the role involves updating communication guidance, assisting with reporting, staying current with communication trends and technologies, and maintaining confidentiality.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in developing and implementing communication strategies is required. Demonstrated knowledge of strategic communication principles and practices is essential. Experience in drafting clear messages for diverse audiences is also required. Skills in developing creative content, knowledge of digital media platforms, research and data analysis, and experience in data analytics are desirable.
