The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs, operating under the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO). This role is within the UN RCO in Nouakchott, Mauritania, reporting to the Head of the RCO. The UN 2.0 shift emphasizes data, digital, innovation, and foresight.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist supports the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Nouakchott, Mauritania, by developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This role involves collaborating with internal and external counterparts to enhance data-driven decision-making for development, humanitarian, and peace initiatives. The specialist will contribute to the UN 2.0 shift by leveraging data, digital tools, and advanced analytical methods to generate insights and support the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. The position aims to foster a data-driven culture and build capacity in data analytics within the RCO and among national partners.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. Identify and analyze trends using statistical methods. Acquire, clean, and maintain data systems, ensuring data integrity and quality. Develop reports, dashboards, and tools to support evidence-based decision-making for development, humanitarian, and peace nexus initiatives. Document methodologies and establish data management standards. Design and implement process improvements, including automation and architecture optimization. Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to enhance data flows and quality. Create basic data visualizations and contribute to data science products using advanced analytical methods. Build staff and partner capacity in data analytics through training and workshops. Serve as a resource person for data analytics within the RCO.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions is required. Experience in data quality assurance and data validation is also required. Experience with data storytelling and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R) and in data analytics is desirable.
