Associate Data Specialist
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), part of the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO), support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, reporting to the Head of the RCO. The office operates within the UN 2.0 framework, emphasizing data, digital, and innovation.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist supports the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Malabo by developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This role contributes to the UN's reform efforts by enhancing data-driven decision-making and supporting the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. The specialist collaborates with internal and external counterparts to share best practices and information, ensuring the RCO effectively supports national development priorities and SDG attainment.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and data analytics strategies to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze and interpret trends using statistical methods, identifying key features in data. Acquire, clean, and manage data from various sources, implementing process improvements for data analytics tasks. Stay updated on UN initiatives for co-designing digital tools and dashboards for SDG indicator tracking. Create basic data visualizations to support decision-making and communications. Integrate monitoring milestones and indicators into common data pipelines. Compile data insights and prepare materials for stakeholder communications. Keep abreast of data analytics best practices, technologies, and tools. Contribute to capacity-building activities on data analytics and results-based management training for staff and partners. Assist with data preparation, preliminary analysis, verification, reporting, and administrative tasks related to the work plan.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions is required. Experience in quality assurance of data analysis outputs and data validation is also required. Experience in data storytelling and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R) and in data analytics is desirable.
