Social Media Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is part of the UN Secretariat, responsible for coordinating humanitarian actors and ensuring coherent responses to emergencies. The Financing and Outreach Division (FOD) manages partner relationships, fundraising, communications, advocacy, and innovation in humanitarian finance.
Job Purpose
This internship within OCHA's Office of the Director (OD) in New York focuses on supporting social media and communication efforts. The role contributes to enhancing the visibility and impact of the Director's initiatives and OCHA's broader mission. By assisting with campaign planning, content creation, graphic design, and social media monitoring, the intern will play a key part in communicating humanitarian action, advocating for those in need, and promoting preparedness and prevention strategies.
Responsibilities
Support social media campaign planning, development, and implementation for the Director's X and LinkedIn accounts. Conduct research and assist in creating impact stories. Help run campaigns for flagship events and missions, and draft content for social media engagement. Design engaging graphic communications for social media, including promotional materials and digital graphics. Assist with image selection, provide metadata, and organize the production and distribution of social media materials. Research, monitor, and record media impact and recognition content. Analyze social media analytics, trends, and tools to support the advancement of the Social Media Strategy.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, previous experience in social media and in a private or public sector setting is desirable. A field of study closely related to the internship is also required.
