Organizational Context
The Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) is the United Nations system's sole independent external oversight body, based at the UN Office at Geneva (UNOG). It conducts system-wide reviews to enhance efficiency, promote coordination among UN agencies, and identify best practices. This internship supports JIU review teams in their mandate.
Job Purpose
This internship offers hands-on experience in oversight and evaluation within the UN system. The intern will support JIU review teams, contributing to system-wide reviews that aim to improve management efficiency, foster inter-agency coordination, and identify best practices. The role involves assisting with research, analysis, and drafting, under the guidance of experienced UN staff. This position provides a unique opportunity to understand the mechanisms of independent oversight and contribute to the effectiveness of the United Nations.
Responsibilities
Support review teams in conducting system-wide oversight and evaluation activities. Assist in identifying best practices, proposing benchmarks, and formulating evidence-based recommendations. Facilitate information-sharing across participating UN organizations. Conduct research and analysis relevant to specific reviews. Draft reports, memos, and other documentation under supervision. Collaborate with Inspectors, Evaluation and Inspection Officers, and Research Assistants. Ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and appropriate human review of all work products. Manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Work both independently and collaboratively within a multicultural team environment.

Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants should possess training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that will benefit the United Nations during their internship. Demonstrated interest in the UN's work and commitment to its ideals are essential.
