Organizational Context

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland, seeks an intern for the Sri Lanka accountability project. This six-month, full-time, non-remunerated internship offers students exposure to UN work, contributing to OHCHR's mission of protecting human rights and assisting those upholding them.

Job Purpose

This internship provides a framework for students to gain practical experience within the UN Secretariat, specifically supporting the OHCHR's mission in Sri Lanka. The role contributes to the protection of human rights by assisting in the analysis of information, research, and documentation related to human rights violations and accountability mechanisms. The intern will gain exposure to international human rights work, develop analytical and research skills, and support the project's objectives in a global context. Responsibilities

The intern will support the Sri Lanka accountability project by reviewing, cataloguing, and analyzing information relevant to the project's mandate, including extracting and consolidating data. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating repositories of documentation and research materials on human rights violations in Sri Lanka. The intern will also analyze and organize datasets, contribute to statistical outputs and visualizations, and support the enhancement of information management systems. Further duties involve conducting desk-based research on national and international accountability frameworks, collecting and synthesizing information from various sources, and researching open-source information on human rights violations and international crimes. Additionally, the intern will assist in planning, organizing, and coordinating meetings and events, and perform other assigned duties.
