Trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants - Internship

Organizational Context

This internship is with the Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (TIPSOM) Unit of the UNODC Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN) in Dakar, Senegal. The role supports the coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the TIPSOM programme portfolio, focusing on a project to enhance regional capacities in combating trafficking and migrant smuggling.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the UNODC's Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (TIPSOM) Unit in Dakar. The intern will assist in the day-to-day implementation of programme activities, contributing to the project aimed at strengthening West and Central African states' capabilities to detect, investigate, prosecute trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling, and protect victims. This role involves supporting work plan execution, progress evaluation, information collection, partner engagement, and administrative tasks related to anti-trafficking initiatives, including workshops and training seminars. The internship offers practical experience in international crime prevention and criminal justice within a UN context.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparing and revising detailed work plans for programme implementation. Contribute to the daily execution of programme activities, ensuring adherence to deadlines. Support the regular evaluation of activity progress, documenting achievements and challenges with relevant materials. Aid in strengthening networks with partners involved in the unit's field of intervention. Collect and maintain up-to-date information from various sources for project implementation and evaluation. Organize and manage correspondence and documents, ensuring they are current. Provide guidance to implementing partners on project execution and the submission of supporting financial documents. Offer administrative support for the preparation and implementation of anti-trafficking and migrant smuggling activities, including workshops and training seminars. Undertake any other compatible tasks as assigned.

Work Experience

No specific work experience is explicitly required for this internship. However, candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its Charter. Experience with standard computer software applications is expected.

Skills

Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts. Ability to design surveys and polls. Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, showing tolerance and understanding. Keen interest in UN work and commitment to its ideals. Fluency in English and French (oral and written).
