Private Sector Partnerships Specialist
Organizational Context
The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), within the Department of Peace Operations, seeks to assess the feasibility of mobilizing resources and establishing strategic partnerships with non-Member State entities. This role will focus on developing a practical training program to enhance fundraising and partnership development capabilities, aiming to identify new funding opportunities and support an organizational approach to resource mobilization.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of UNMAS's capacity to access non-traditional funding sources, specifically from the private sector. This involves evaluating current capabilities, identifying challenges and opportunities, and recommending strategies to develop and operationalize private sector fundraising. The consultant will explore various avenues including corporate fundraising, public-private partnerships, philanthropic giving, family trusts, foundations, and impact investing. The ultimate goal is to inform the design of a future UNMAS Private Sector fundraising strategy, providing actionable recommendations on engagement, resourcing, timelines, and risk mitigation to enhance resource mobilization efforts.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Policy, Advocacy, Donor Relations and Outreach Section, the consultant will analyze the viability of UNMAS accessing non-traditional funding. This includes assessing current capabilities and making recommendations for developing private sector funding capacity. Key duties involve: conducting a desk review of relevant organizational documents; surveying UNMAS's understanding and capacity for non-traditional funding; evaluating current organizational capacities, challenges, and opportunities through consultations and interviews; assessing the Mine Action sector's utilization of non-traditional funding avenues; and delivering a detailed assessment report with recommendations for a future UNMAS Private Sector fundraising strategy, including options for engagement, resourcing, timelines, and risk analysis.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in Private Sector Fundraising is required. Expertise in donor acquisition channels, donor retention, and development methods is essential. Previous experience within the United Nations in Private Sector Partnerships or a closely related function is required. Proven experience in developing private sector partnership strategies and analyzing fundraising opportunities is necessary.
