IOM Kenya is undertaking a project to solarize selected areas of its Kakuma office, aiming for sustainability, operational efficiency, and cost optimization. This role supports the assessment and installation monitoring for this solarization initiative.

Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to support IOM Kenya's solarization project for its Kakuma office. The primary purpose is to contribute to the assessment of solar energy needs, preparation of procurement documentation, and monitoring of the installation process. The role will involve collecting and analyzing site and electricity consumption data, assisting in drafting tender documents, and overseeing the installation activities to ensure they align with project objectives and IOM standards. The consultant will work under the guidance of IOM officials to achieve sustainability and efficiency goals for the Kakuma office's energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities

The consultant will conduct a solarization assessment, including reviewing electricity consumption data, documenting site conditions, and preparing an inventory of equipment and estimated loads. Responsibilities include supporting basic load profiling, system sizing calculations, identifying constraints, and compiling market information on equipment and costs. The consultant will prepare draft procurement documentation, such as a bill of quantities, cost estimate, implementation schedule, and equipment specifications. Additionally, the role involves monitoring installation progress, recording delivered equipment, comparing it against the bill of quantities, and documenting deviations, delays, or safety concerns. The consultant will also participate in installation monitoring, maintain records, and support coordination between IOM and the selected contractor, escalating issues as needed.

Work Experience

Experience in preparing bills of quantities, cost estimates, and technical reports is necessary. Familiarity with solar PV components, load assessment, electrical safety, and the Kenyan solar market is important. Experience in East Africa and with UN organizations is advantageous.

Skills

Proficiency in spreadsheets, standard calculation tools, and basic drawing/layout software. Strong analytical, record-keeping, reporting, coordination, and communication skills. Ability to identify and escalate issues effectively within a supervised framework.
