Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. It supports governments and migrants, saves lives, protects people on the move, and facilitates regular migration pathways. Movement Operations is a core pillar of IOM's work, coordinating international transport for migrants and refugees globally under various agreements.

Job Purpose

The Field Support Associate plays a crucial role in undertaking movement operations activities in the field, under the supervision of the National Operations Officer and Senior Protection Coordinator. This position is integral to IOM's mandate of facilitating the organized movement of persons in need of international migration assistance. The role involves direct support to migrants and refugees during various stages of their journey, including airport services, transit center assistance, and transportation coordination, ensuring their safety, security, and comfort throughout the process.

Responsibilities

The Field Support Associate will undertake field activities, potentially including airport services, transit centers, and transportation coordination. This involves guiding teams, assisting with travel documentation verification, immigration, security, and customs procedures, and escorting individuals. The role includes coordinating services for individuals at transit centers, managing pre-departure formalities, and ensuring timely provision of meals and essential items. The Associate will also support transportation logistics, assist with selection and exit permit processes, and provide interpretation if needed. Maintaining updated information, reporting issues, and alerting supervisors to any non-compliance are key duties.

Work Experience

Prior experience in Movement Operations or transportation is highly advantageous. Strong experience working with migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) is required. Proficiency in using office software packages (MS Word, Excel), the internet, and knowledge of spreadsheet and data analysis are also necessary.
