Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with governments and partners to save lives, protect migrants, address displacement, and facilitate legal migration pathways. This role supports projects in Slovakia aimed at enhancing institutional capacities in labor migration and mobility.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for supporting the implementation of projects designed to strengthen institutional capacities in labor migration and labor mobility within Slovakia. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and delivering capacity-building activities, conducting research, compiling policy and legal information, and providing essential technical assistance to government institutions, employers, and other relevant stakeholders. The position contributes to IOM's mission of promoting orderly migration and supporting governments and migrants, operating under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the National Legal Officer.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in project planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring. The role involves acting as a focal point for administrative coordination, drafting correspondence, preparing reports, and organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions. The incumbent will maintain liaison with local authorities and partners, provide inputs for Standard Operations Procedures and concept papers, and offer general administrative and technical support for new project development. Additionally, the role involves organizing and conducting training sessions on foreign national employment, facilitating discussions on legal procedures, and conducting research on legislative and policy developments relevant to project objectives. Support for research activities, including stakeholder consultations and data collection, is also required.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants and refugees is essential. Prior experience in international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting is advantageous. Specific experience in migration, integration, or inclusion, particularly concerning the legislative framework for employing foreign nationals in Slovakia, is beneficial. Experience in developing and delivering training materials, reviewing legal documents, and writing research reports is also valuable.
Skills
Excellent knowledge of the legislative framework for residency and employment of foreign nationals in Slovakia. Familiarity with capacity development frameworks. Strong facilitation, writing, and analytical skills. Proficient in policymaking.
