Organizational Context
IOM, established in 1951, is the leading UN agency for migration, promoting humane and orderly migration globally. In Greece, IOM operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (Shelters), providing comprehensive services including basic needs, legal and psychosocial support, and educational programs. This role supports the 24/7 operation of these shelters.
Job Purpose
This role is within the framework of the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027", specifically supporting the "Operation of K.F.A.A. Kypseli I" project. Under the supervision of the Shelter Coordinator, the successful candidate will perform routine duties to assist, care for, and provide essential services to Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) residing in the assigned shelter. The position is crucial for ensuring the well-being and daily needs of vulnerable minors, contributing to a safe and supportive living environment within the IOM accommodation center.
Responsibilities
Assist in the daily operations of the accommodation center, ensuring the implementation of individual daily programs for beneficiaries in collaboration with the social worker. Escort children to necessary social and medical services. Provide guidance on personal hygiene, cleanliness, and home economy. Monitor and manage the replenishment of essential materials like clothing and hygiene items. Oversee and prevent damage to facilities, educating minors on their proper use. Maintain entry-exit logs for minors and visitors. Handle crisis and emergency situations effectively, notifying relevant staff promptly. Coordinate with local authorities on safety matters. Ensure the security of accommodated children on a 24-hour basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Perform other assigned duties as required.
Work Experience
Experience or training in child protection, vulnerability management, or reception of asylum seekers is required. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants, refugees, and children is essential. Previous experience in a similar role, with diverse populations, and in multi-cultural environments is preferred. Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is necessary. A valid driver's license is an asset.
Skills
Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children. Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills with minors. Understanding of child needs, development stages, and ability to provide a supportive environment. Capacity for immediate response to emergency/crisis situations. Proficient use of IT equipment and standard software applications (MS Office).
