Information and Communication Technology Assistant
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Abuja, Nigeria, seeks an ICT Assistant. This role operates under the supervision of the Information Management Technology Officer and the Senior ICT Team Lead. The position is crucial for supporting all IOM projects in Abuja by ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of ICT infrastructure.
Job Purpose
The ICT Assistant is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of computer systems, hardware peripherals, and the implementation of ICT requirements for IOM Abuja, directly supporting all ongoing projects. This role involves managing daily IT support requests, troubleshooting minor technical issues, and escalating complex problems to senior ICT staff. The primary goal is to ensure a reliable and efficient ICT environment for all IOM staff and operations in the mission, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the organization's activities in Nigeria.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include installing approved software and hardware (PCs, laptops, servers, printers) according to IOM standards, and performing system clean-ups. The role involves maintaining installed software, applying necessary updates, and optimizing system performance. The ICT Assistant will resolve end-user queries related to software and ICT components, escalating unresolved issues. Support will be provided to the Senior IT Assistant in ensuring ICT activities comply with organizational rules and procedures. Duties also encompass managing email accounts and mailing lists, providing first-level user support for access, connectivity, and application issues, and acting as the primary contact for hardware collection and replacement. The position requires identifying faulty devices, maintaining repair logs, assisting with IT equipment inventory, tracking procurement requests, and testing new equipment. Additionally, the role involves performing and testing user data and server backups, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and connectivity problems, supporting specific systems like Telerad and PACS, and managing PABX and communication systems.
Work Experience
Four years of relevant experience in the ICT field, including operational and field experience, is required. Experience working with an IT support center, handling phone and email communications, and good knowledge of Windows OS, networking, VOIP, and corporate Skype installations are essential.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint) and general IT knowledge are required. Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively are also essential competencies for this role.
