Consultant, Migration Health Physician

IOM, established in 1951, is a leading UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. It protects people on the move, drives solutions to displacement, and facilitates pathways for regular migration. The Migration Health Division (MHD) in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is responsible for delivering these services. This role operates within the MHD under the supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure the efficient daily operations of the Migration Health Division (MHD) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Consultant will be responsible for conducting comprehensive migration health assessments, fulfilling technical requirements for resettlement countries. This includes managing medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, treatment referrals, and pre-departure procedures. The role also involves ensuring the accuracy of health information, overseeing TB and STI treatment, coordinating immunization programs, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives within the MHD. Additionally, the position supports data management, financial oversight, and procurement of medical supplies, while also assisting in emergency health response activities.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include ensuring the efficient daily operations of the Migration Health Division (MHD) in coordination with the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO). The role involves conducting migration health assessments covering medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB and STI management, treatment and referrals, pre-departure procedures, and documentation. Accurate recording of health information and ensuring completeness is crucial. The Consultant will oversee immunization and presumptive treatment programs, monitor and educate staff, and contribute to quality improvement systems and SOP implementation. Data collection, processing, analysis, and reporting for migration health activities are also key duties, along with ensuring data entry into MiMOSA and related databases. Financial oversight of the MHD, including budget preparation and review, and coordination of procurement for medical supplies are required. The role also includes assisting the CMHO with emergency health response activities.
Work Experience
Requires professional continuous clinical experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary hospital setting, with the last posting within the last three years. Knowledge of clinical medicine, patient safety, and infection prevention and control is necessary. Specializations in pediatrics, pulmonology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, public health, or healthcare management are advantageous, as is master trainer experience and experience in emergency settings.
