Intern - Climate Action
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN Related Organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. As the leading UN agency in migration, IOM collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. The Internship Programme aims to attract talented students and graduates interested in migration-related fields, with interns typically aged 20-36 and having less than two years of relevant experience.
Job Purpose
This internship within IOM's Climate Action Division (CAD) supports the organization's comprehensive approach to migration in the context of climate change and environmental degradation. The role contributes to managing environmental migration by assisting with "Solutions for people to move," "Solutions for people on the move," and "Solutions for people to stay." The intern will gain practical experience in international climate policy processes, understand the linkages between human mobility and climate change, and enhance their professional skills in a multicultural UN environment, aligning with IOM’s Strategic Plan 2024-2028 and its Institutional Strategy on Migration, Environment and Climate Change.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Climate Action Division (CAD) by updating its environmental migration portal and preparing social media content. Responsibilities include gathering content and drafting the CAD newsletter, supporting the drafting of reports and presentations, and assisting in the organization of meetings, workshops, and events, including logistics and communication materials for COP31. The role also involves researching climate mobility issues, preparing summaries for policy development and advocacy, identifying emerging trends, and monitoring global developments. Additional tasks may be assigned by CAD.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, prior experience in preparing communication materials, managing web portals, and possessing strong research and drafting skills will be considered a distinct advantage.
Skills
Required: Ability to undertake policy research and prepare reports; ability to organize and complete multiple tasks by establishing priorities. Advantageous: Demonstrated knowledge in climate change, migration, and sustainable development; knowledge of migration-related issues, including climate change and human mobility.
