Job Purpose
The Media & Communications Officer in IOM Chad will support the coordination and implementation of communications, public information, and media strategies. This role is crucial for promoting an accurate narrative about IOM Chad's programs and activities. The officer will engage with media, the UN, donors, and other key partners, ensuring effective communication to enhance the organization's public profile and understanding of its mission. The position contributes to IOM's overall objective of managing migration effectively and humanely.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include implementing IOM Chad's internal and external communications strategies to promote accurate narratives on response activities and migration issues. This involves developing and executing project visibility and communication plans, drafting and coordinating communications content such as stories, blogs, videos, and social media posts. The role also entails managing IOM Chad's online presence, responding to media requests, organizing media engagements, and maintaining a journalist contact database. Additionally, the officer will draft key messages and talking points, coordinate graphic design for communication products, liaise with UN communication groups, and gather multimedia content from field operations, ensuring compliance with consent and data protection protocols.
Work Experience
Experience is required in coordinating digital communications and social media, corporate writing and editing, supporting donor visibility, and liaising with media, preferably in the region. Experience in humanitarian communications and working in the region or an emergency setting is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. Strong knowledge of migration issues, social cohesion, and migrant inclusion. Excellent liaison and networking skills with government agencies, donors, and NGOs. Ability to establish priorities, work independently under pressure, manage workload, and maintain composure. Excellent interpersonal skills for effective teamwork in multicultural environments. Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports.
