IOM, established in 1951, is the leading UN agency for migration, promoting humane and orderly migration globally. In Greece, under the 'Helios+' project, IOM supports the integration of third-country nationals into the labor market and society. This role supports project activities in the North Aegean region, collaborating with authorities and partners.
Job Purpose
The Interpreter (Arabic-French) role is crucial for the successful implementation of the 'Helios+' project in Greece, which aims to integrate beneficiaries of international protection and temporary protection into Greek society. The incumbent will provide essential interpretation and translation services, facilitating communication between IOM staff, beneficiaries, and stakeholders. This role directly contributes to employability support, language courses, vocational training, and social cohesion activities, ensuring beneficiaries can access available services and information effectively. By bridging language barriers, the interpreter supports IOM's mandate to promote humane migration and assist people on the move.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include establishing trust with beneficiaries and providing interpretation and cultural mediation. The role involves responding to helpline calls, identifying emerging issues, and accurately recording information. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and humanitarian actors is key to effective project implementation and coordination. The interpreter will identify barriers to service access for beneficiaries and translate documents and information materials. Assisting in mediation activities objectively and impartially, and providing general support to other project staff during activities in various locations are also core duties.
Work Experience
Previous experience in a similar interpreter or translation role is required. Experience working within a multicultural environment is preferred.
Skills
Fluency in English and Greek (oral and written) is required. Fluency in Arabic and French (oral and written) is also required. Computer literacy in standard software applications is necessary. Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles are essential. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
