Organizational Context

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a UN-designated body focused on environmental issues in international aviation, including GHG emission reduction. ICAO assists Member States in deploying cleaner aviation fuels, developing action plans, and implementing CO2 mitigation measures. The Field Operations Section (FOS) within the Capacity, Development and Implementation Bureau (D/CDI) manages implementation support projects, including those funded by states and organizations for the ICAO ACT-SAF initiative, which aims to foster Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) development and deployment.

Job Purpose

To conduct comprehensive studies on the development and deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in designated states, developing implementation roadmaps. This role supports the ICAO ACT-SAF initiative and aims to help states develop their SAF potential, contributing to the mitigation of CO2 emissions from international aviation.

Responsibilities

Conduct studies on SAF development and deployment, including feedstock potential, production technologies, supply chains, and regulatory/economic measures. Develop implementation roadmaps, assess market potential, identify funding mechanisms, and conduct techno-economic assessments when required. Liaise with national and international stakeholders, participate in project meetings and capacity-building activities, and present findings to state representatives. Submit weekly progress reports.

Work Experience

A minimum of 7 years of experience in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), biofuels, renewable energy, the oil industry, energy, sustainable development, or environmental and social impacts.
