Organizational Context

The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) manages the IAEA's nuclear safety and security program, protecting people and the environment from radiation and supporting Member States. The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) within NS is the global focal point for preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies, strengthening Member States' capabilities.

Job Purpose

The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) serves as the global hub for international emergency preparedness and response (EPR) for nuclear and radiological incidents. This role is crucial for enhancing the IEC's outreach products, including brochures, training materials, publications, and visual communication installations. These products are vital for communicating the Centre's mandate, services, and role in the international EPR framework to Member States, partners, staff, and stakeholders. The consultant will provide technical expertise to develop and implement new visual elements, collect and refine content with internal experts, ensure compliance with IAEA visual identity, and manage vendor relationships from design to installation.

Responsibilities

The consultant will implement the corridor and Operations Centre communications scheme by providing technical input for wall decals, collecting and consolidating content, liaising with technical experts for content accuracy, facilitating internal reviews, and managing vendor relationships through design, production, and installation. Responsibilities also include revising and updating IEC brochures by inventorying existing materials, recommending a consolidated suite, and drafting/updating content and layout. Additionally, the consultant will revise and update training materials, including presentations and e-learning content, ensuring consistency. Finally, the role involves substantive revision and editing of IEC publications and technical documents to improve clarity and accessibility while maintaining technical accuracy and adhering to IAEA house style and visual identity.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in communication, outreach, or publication production is required. This includes demonstrated experience in coordinating external vendors for design, print, or installation, producing outreach and exhibition content aligned with institutional visual identity, and editing technical material for non-technical audiences. Experience in an international organization and familiarity with scientific or technical subject matter are considered assets.

Skills

Excellent written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official IAEA language is an asset. Skills include content collection and consolidation, technical writing and editing, vendor coordination, and adherence to institutional visual identity guidelines.
