FAO Country Offices assist governments in achieving food security, reducing hunger, and promoting sustainable natural resource management. FAO Angola manages a diverse project portfolio, focusing on food security, animal health, climate resilience, and sustainable agrifood systems, aligned with the Country Programming Framework.

Job Purpose

The National Project Coordinator (One Health) will be responsible for the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of FAO's One Health projects in Angola. This role focuses on strengthening integrated surveillance systems, preventing and responding to zoonotic diseases, controlling antimicrobial resistance, and fostering multisectoral collaboration across human, animal, plant, and environmental health sectors. The incumbent will provide technical and operational support, facilitate capacity development, monitor project performance, and contribute to documentation, reporting, knowledge sharing, and resource management to ensure project success and alignment with national priorities.

Responsibilities

The role involves managing the day-to-day coordination and implementation of One Health projects, ensuring compliance with FAO procedures and national priorities. This includes providing technical, operational, and administrative support for timely delivery of outputs and efficient resource use. The coordinator will contribute to detailed planning, progress tracking, and identifying/addressing implementation bottlenecks. Key responsibilities include supporting the design and implementation of integrated One Health strategies for zoonotic diseases and AMR, strengthening surveillance systems (IDSR, community-based, digital), and supporting preparedness for epidemic-prone diseases. The position also requires promoting climate-resilient, ecosystem-based approaches, facilitating multisectoral coordination, collaborating with FAO technical teams, and ensuring quality assurance of project documents. Capacity development through training and awareness campaigns, promoting inclusive and community-based approaches, and supporting data collection, analysis, and dissemination are also crucial. The role includes developing technical guidelines, documenting lessons learned, and supporting project reporting and communication.

Work Experience

At least seven (7) years of relevant professional experience in One Health, public health, veterinary public health, epidemiology, zoonotic disease surveillance, or Integrated Pests Management. Proven experience in project coordination, multisectoral collaboration, capacity development, and implementing integrated human, animal, and environmental health programmes is essential.

Skills

Solid background in One Health systems, including public health surveillance, veterinary public health, zoonotic disease prevention, environmental health, and integrated human–animal–environment approaches. Proven experience working with government institutions, development partners, UN agencies, research institutions, and/or international organizations in One Health, public health, or health security programmes, including collaboration with community-level structures and multisectoral platforms.
