The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands (SAP) in Apia, Samoa, is dedicated to advancing regional priorities in food, agriculture, and rural development. It fosters relationships with subregional institutions and supports country-level efforts in food security and agricultural development. SAP operates as a component of the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP).

Job Purpose

The Office Driver serves as a key point of contact for external visitors, including high-ranking government officials, UN agency representatives, project managers, and consultants. This role involves regular interaction with national and international personnel, both within and outside the Organization, as well as with local offices and service providers. The incumbent's professional demeanor and efficiency are crucial in shaping initial impressions of the FAO office and its operations in Samoa.

Responsibilities

The Office Driver is responsible for safely transporting country office staff and official visitors on assigned trips, adhering strictly to road safety regulations and FAO/UNDSS guidelines. This includes meeting visitors at the airport and assisting with immigration, customs, and hotel arrangements. The driver must meticulously log all official trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle-related expenses, and ensure the assigned vehicle is maintained in excellent operational and clean condition, performing minor repairs as needed. In the event of an accident, the driver must manage all necessary local and organizational procedures. Additionally, the role involves collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other items to various locations, supporting administrative tasks in Procurement, Finance, and HR, assisting with basic clerical duties, and performing minor maintenance on office equipment like air conditioning units and generators.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience as a driver is required. Experience working within an international organization in Apia and experience driving high-ranking officials are highly desirable.

Skills

Essential skills include a flawless and safe driving record, proficiency in English and Samoan, and a valid driver’s license. The candidate should demonstrate results focus, teamwork, effective communication, and relationship-building abilities. Familiarity with corporate environmental responsibility and experience supporting administrative functions within an international organization are advantageous.
