Organizational Context
The PCT Legal Publication Unit is responsible for maintaining and publishing Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) legal texts and related documents in all official languages. This role supports global stakeholders and the effective functioning of the PCT system by ensuring the accuracy and timely dissemination of crucial legal information and official notices.
Job Purpose
The Associate Legal Editor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, coherence, and timely publication of PCT legal texts. This role is critical for supporting the evolving needs of global stakeholders and ensuring the effective functioning of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) system. The incumbent will contribute to the preparation and review of legal and other informational materials published by the Section, ensuring high-quality output that facilitates international patent cooperation and adherence to legal standards.
Responsibilities
The Associate Legal Editor will assist in developing and updating PCT legal texts and resources, contributing to process modernization. Key duties include preparing, editing, and reviewing PCT legal texts for accuracy, clarity, and conformity with standards in English and French. This involves coordinating the publication of official translations in all languages, seeking expert review when necessary. The role also entails preparing and publishing other legal-related texts, such as amendments and agreements. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in checking other publications like the PCT Gazette and Newsletter, and serve as a focal point for translation requests and reviews. Contributing to customer-focused services and promoting PCT growth are also integral aspects of this position.
Work Experience
At least three years of relevant professional experience, preferably including editing, drafting, or reviewing legal texts in an international and multilingual environment. Experience with PCT-related texts is desirable.
Skills
Good knowledge of PCT procedures. Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in digital tools, including Microsoft Office and AI-enabled applications. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities with attention to detail. Ability to coordinate multilingual workflows accurately and efficiently.
