Job Purpose
The Director, Prevention and Health Promotion is responsible for the overall direction, management, and high-quality program delivery of the division. This role involves leading the development of evidence-based policies and strategies, providing expert technical advice to country offices and partners, and mobilizing resources to support implementation. The position aims to position the division and WHO as leaders in prevention and health promotion, ensuring equitable access to comprehensive public health services and responding effectively to population needs.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include providing strategic direction and management for the division, ensuring high-quality program delivery and accountability. This involves leading the development of a strong evidence base and evidence-based policies for health promotion and prevention. The role requires providing top-level technical advice to country offices and partners, mobilizing resources, and building strategic partnerships. Additionally, the Director will harmonize technical unit work, oversee performance monitoring, serve as a key technical reference, and represent the division in global forums. Management of human and financial resources, and driving resource mobilization activities are also critical.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible international and national professional experience in managing health programs and public health, including policy and strategy development, is essential. This includes at least 5 years of senior-level advisory experience and 5 years of management experience in leadership positions with direct responsibility for human resources and finance.
