Job Purpose

This position involves collaborating with stakeholders, supporting decision-making for humanitarian initiatives, and contributing to strategic planning and Digital Assistance activities. The IT EC will monitor performance, report on needs, and recommend corrective actions, often working in challenging field conditions and representing WFP at coordination meetings.
Responsibilities
The IT Emergency Coordinator plays a crucial role in the World Food Programme's (WFP) emergency response efforts, specifically within the IT Emergency Preparedness and Response Branch. This position is responsible for coordinating and managing WFP's Information Technology (IT) response to global and local crises. A key aspect of the role involves leading the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) and ensuring the rapid deployment of the Fast IT, Telecommunications and Coordination Support Services Team (FITTEST). The IT Emergency Coordinator collaborates with various stakeholders and cluster members to meet the urgent communication needs of humanitarian responders, facilitating both immediate response and recovery. They act as a vital link, supporting the Humanitarian Coordinator and Humanitarian Country Team by contributing to strategic planning, developing project initiatives, and securing funding. This includes assessing and prioritizing technology needs, developing operational plans, managing budgets, and monitoring performance against humanitarian objectives. The role also involves representing WFP and the ETC in coordination meetings, advocating for funding, and building local capacity for sustainable operations. Additionally, the IT Emergency Coordinator supports Digital Assistance interventions and may supervise national personnel and other response teams, ensuring effective and efficient technology services are delivered in challenging emergency environments.
Work Experience
Requires a university degree in Technology or Business Management, or equivalent post-secondary education with extensive practical field experience. A minimum of 8 years of experience in a relevant field is necessary. Candidates must be willing to work in challenging conditions, travel for emergencies within 24 hours, and possess strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Fluency in English is mandatory, with intermediate knowledge of another UN language being desirable.
