Job Purpose
The Driver will be responsible for providing efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and commodities across various WFP operational areas. This includes adhering strictly to UN safety and security regulations, maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks, and ensuring the assigned vehicle is kept in optimal condition. The role also involves assisting personnel with basic needs upon arrival, performing minor vehicle maintenance, and supporting administrative tasks such as filing and deliveries when not driving. The Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and secure logistical operations necessary for WFP's humanitarian mission.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. This involves driving personnel and visitors, including meeting them at entry points like airports and assisting with basic formalities. The role also includes delivering various items and commodities, adhering strictly to authorized routes and UN safety regulations. A key duty is maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks and reporting on the vehicle's mechanical status to ensure optimal use and fuel efficiency. The individual must keep the assigned vehicle clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies, promptly reporting any mechanical issues. In case of field deliveries or accidents, established rules and regulations must be followed, with immediate reporting to the supervisor. Beyond driving, the role may involve basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, managing stores, and handling mail and bill payments to provide administrative support. This position requires a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and experience driving various vehicle types, with knowledge of local roads, safety standards, and basic first aid being essential.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of experience as a Driver, preferably with an international organization, embassy, or UN system, demonstrating a safe driving record. Experience with various vehicle types and defensive driving is advantageous. Must possess knowledge of driving regulations, local conditions, safety standards, and basic first aid. Proficiency in using communication tools and assessing vehicle mechanical fitness is also necessary.
